Human Resources: Office Hours

Walk-in hours for BADGES, NEW HIRES, and BACKGROUND CHECKS (see below) allow for sufficient staffing to ensure expeditious and efficient service. Of course, during the busy hiring season additional days will be available beyond the walk-in hours.

As always, feel free to give us a call with your questions or concerns. Answers to many Frequently Asked Questions will soon be found on our new FAQ page on the HR webpage.

For other matters that will require more than a few minutes, we encourage you to call
802-864-2159 to make an appointment for a call back or a meeting. This will again allow us to provide you with uninterrupted service.

New Badges - New ID photography, or replace a lost badge:
Mondays, 2:00-4:30 PM
Wednesdays, 2:00-4:30 PM
Fridays, 9:00-11:00 AM


Onboarding* - Meet with HR staff to review & process your paperwork:
Mondays, 3:15-4:15 PM
Thursdays, 8:00-9:00 AM

*NOTE: New hires must make an appointment with HR; please bring completed paperwork to your appointment.

Background Checks -
Tuesdays, 8:00-11:00 AM
Thursdays, 1:30-4:30 PM

  • A fingerprint-supported background check is $16.50 (cash or check); photo ID required. BSD paperwork must be done PRIOR to your Fingerprint Identification Center appointment.
  • "Secondary Dissemination" forms allow BSD to request a copy when another Vermont School District or the Agency of Education holds your background report (no charge).
  • Area college-student short-term "observers," who have not already done so, must visit HR before the school visit. Forms permit an online background check. (no charge)

Employment / Income Verifications - Please provide 2-days advance notice. The Business Office fulfills FAX'ed requests @ (802) 540-3010.


Jack McCarthy

The Human Resources Department is pleased to announce that Jack McCarthy has joined our office as the new Assistant Director. Jack assists in the management of the day-to-day operations and will also support the schools and departments with employment matters and other human resources needs.


Jack hails originally from Delaware, where he served as a teacher, principal, and Director of Secondary Education. In Vermont, he was the Principal of Missisquoi Valley Union High School before serving 15 years as the Superintendent of Franklin Northwest Supervisory Union. Jackís experience as a teacher, principal and superintendent will bring valuable insight and experience to the work of the Human Resources Department as we strive to better serve the District.


Jack holds a BA from American University and a MA and Doctorate from the University of Delaware in Education Leadership. Jack lives in St. Albans with his wife, Pam. They have four grown children and five grandchildren. Jack is very excited to be joining the Burlington School District team!
